A PERSPECTIVE FOR CEOs AND BOARDS

What reaches
the decision?

Sound judgment depends in part on whether leaders can hear, examine, and use the information around them.

As responsibility grows, information may arrive more carefully filtered. People anticipate reactions, soften a concern, or wait for a safer moment. A leader can be working hard and acting in good faith while receiving an increasingly incomplete picture.

Notice how people adapt.

My Drift Induction Model™ is a way to examine how an organization’s habits can shape what people say—and eventually what they trust themselves to see. It invites attention to three connected questions:

  1. What does the environment encourage? Notice which questions receive attention and which create discomfort.
  2. How are people adjusting? Look for concerns being softened, withheld, or discussed only outside the room.
  3. What happens to confidence in one’s own judgment? Consider whether people have begun dismissing useful observations before sharing them.

These are possibilities to investigate in context. Disagreement, hesitation, or silence can have different meanings; curiosity comes before a conclusion.

Make room for a fuller picture.

The CEO Isolation vs Access to Truth™ framework asks how authority affects access to candid perspectives. Useful inquiry begins with concrete examples:

Bring the questions into the work.

Leadership Calibration System™ brings attention to decision clarity, relational accuracy, and system stability. In practice, this can mean examining a difficult exchange, clarifying a board–CEO expectation, or checking an assumption before a consequential decision.

The aim is to strengthen the conditions for sound judgment while respecting the responsibilities of the people making the decisions.

Start with a live question.
